Steinbach Blackwings Linz Warm up

Steinbach Blackwings Linz Warm up

This photography series documents the pre-game warm-up of the Steinbach Blackwings Linz. Marking my first time shooting ice hockey, the project focuses on capturing the quiet focus, anticipation, and raw emotions before the game starts. Shot primarily from an elevated top-down perspective, the visuals emphasize tight framing and a bright, crisp red, blue, and white color scheme that highlights the clean canvas of the ice.

Challenge

Shooting ice hockey for the first time presents a unique challenge. With players moving unpredictably and quickly across the ice, telling a cohesive story from a high angle required fast anticipation to catch fleeting emotional moments and subtle interactions from a distance.

Solution

I utilized tight crops from an elevated view to transform routine warm-up moments into storytelling portraits. Embracing a bright, high-contrast red, blue, and white aesthetic kept the focus entirely on the players, the texture of the ice, and the calm before the storm.
